/21/18- Fairy Tales on Trial started this week! We started class by thinking about what we already know about laws and trials. Then we learned about the differences between crimes and the different classes of misdemeanors and felonies. The students worked with a partner to read about a crime and determine the type of crime.
/6/18- We read the story of Peter Rabbit. This story will be used as our practice trial. We will learn about the trial process through this story.
For our mock trial, it is important that the students know all the roles of the people involved in the trial. We played a game called "Who Am I". The students had a "role" on their back, such as: defense lawyer, judge, witness, etc. They needed to ask "yes" or "no" questions to figure out their role. |
/9/18- We are wrapping up the practice trial for Peter Rabbit. We used this trial to introduce writing opening statements, questions, and closing statements. The students will now be assigned to the Prosecution or Defense for the trial of Jack and the Beanstalk. Here are some pictures from our practice trial.
/19/18- The Prosecution and Defense have been working very hard on their arguments. They are currently working on a final draft. The final trial will be happening soon. I will send out a date and time soon!
/2/18-It is almost time for the final mock trial! Arthur's trial will be held on Thursday, May 10th at 3:20 and Erskine will be on Monday, May 14th at 3:20.
